Le Mont St Michel and Saumur sur Loire

Left Bayeux on Sunday morning and made a short trip to Le Mont St Michel. Weather is still not great mostly drizzle. Many camping cars here mostly french got on to the same aire we were on last year 9 Euro with electric. Walked out to Le mont St Michel there and bck about 2.5 hrs walking .No camping cars out at  Le mont this year. Ruth cooked in the camper and had a nice bottle of red.
Monday started off for Saumur sur Loire .Tomtom took us the scenic route across country hardly met another car but very nice villages and scenery. Arrived here about 3.00 pm Camping Ile D'offard Saumur
14 Euro with Asci Card. Have electric and Wifi .So this is how the Blog is been updated and of course its pissin rain otherwise we would be out walking or cycling. Everywhere here was closed up for the Easter Bank Holiday Monday. I mean everywhere pubs the lot!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Having great difficulty with this blog as all headers keep reverting to French Grrrrreeeeeeee.
So here we are sitting in the van looking over at the Chateau across the river through the pouring rain, even Misty wont go out and the swimming pool is closed today. Spain here we come looking for sunshine.

Bayeux

Aire a little noisy at night (party goers or coming homers) but no problems and it is free with electric hook up.Woke up to a market in the square on sat morning . Everything from a needle to an anchor. Great vegetables meats ,fish and cooked food. Got ripped off here did some cheese tastings and "oh yes that one is nice we will have un petit peu. That cost us 18 Euro!!!! Don't talk about "Rip off Ireland we're only trottin after the French.
Off then for a bit of culture. The Bayeux Tapestry, Bayeux Cathedral and of course the D Day landing Beaches. The American Cemetery was very moving and disturbing to see thousands of white crosses and Stars of David just could not be captured on photo.Very well kept and laid out.
Weather not great drizzle rain and about 12 degrees. Might make a bigger effort to get further south in search of sunshine.
Met people who are staying in the same aire as us in the nearest bar. From Brittany near Le Pouldu ,they had no English and we little French but we managed a good nights conversation in a mixture of both and sign language. Told them we would phone hem when we hit Le Pouldu on our return in June for the singers week-end.

Travels 2012

Left Marlfield at 4.30 on thurs 5th April and arrived in Rosslare at 7.00pm just in time for a bite to eat and a pint before boarding Celtic Ferries. Misty staying in the camper very happy. Very good music on board great singer Dave Clarke? and two lads from Wexford on base and Drums played all night Blues\ soul \ Paul Simon everything .Just a great voice. Met John Walsh from Clonmel retired from HSE and going cycling from Nante back up to Cherbourg along canal banks.
He has written a book on cycling and walking in Kerry. His webpage www.travellogireland.com is well worth looking at. My kind of cyclist he does not cycle in the rain (so no wet gear required) he does not cycle against the wind, and when cycling up hill takes a rest at every telegraph pole.Good people are scarse.!

John Walsh (Cyclist ) and Ruth
Had a good crossing and landed in Cherbourg Friday 6th April .Drove 1.5 hours to Bayeux and stayed on Free Aire N49.16.812 W 000.42.457. Meal out and a few pints. Good night.

Blue Dolphin Corinth and Ancient Corinth

2ND June 09 we left Beka Campsite and travelled to Corinth. Got a brief glimpse of the Corinth Canal from the motorway but could not find our way to a good viewing spot. Checked into Blue Dolphin Campsite in Corinth.Again a nice site with a helpful pleasant owner, spaces a bit tight but good access to a nice beach and a nice restaurant. It was very full when we were there due to a Dutch caravan tour of about twenty vans. We took down the bikes and cycled to Ancient Corinth ,a good climb on a bike.Ancient Corinth has a very good selection of Tavernas and shops and a lovely place to spend an evening .Unfortunately we had come without lights for the bicycles and were a bit nervous of our steep freewheel home. The Ancient site looked impressive and definitely warrants another visit.

Some Photos at Epidavros

Lefka Beach to Beka Camping Epidavros 1st June 09

Monday 1st June we left Lefka Beach for Epidavros and Camping Beka. We visited the Ancient Theater of Asklepiou Epidavros. The theater dates back to the 4th Century BC and is marveled for its exceptional Acoustics, which permit almost perfect intelligibly of unamplified spoken word to all 15,000 spectators regardless of their seating. Tour operators often have their groups scattered in different areas of the stands and demonstrate how they can easily hear the sound of a match being struck at centre stage. Well worth the visit. We then made our way to Bekas Camping, Gialasi. A very pleasant site right beside a long stretch of beach in an orange and lemon grove, plenty of shade from the sun and a very nice restaurant on site. Mostly German campers again ,all huddled close together for a sea view????

Lefka Beach 31st May 2009

Camping Lefka Beach is situated on a beautiful Bay just 15 Km from Nafplio. Just a beautiful place to relax enjoy the sunshine and let the world go by.

Nafplio and Lefka Beech 30th 31st May 2009

Drove to the City of Nafplio and parked at the harbour along with several other campervans and sail holiday boats.Walked through the picturesque streets of the city . Nafplio was the first Capitol of Modern Greece.Great atmosphere plenty of tavernas with people of all nationalities just enjoying the food ,sunshine and chat. Lovely place ! Got talking to a Dutch couple in the campervan parked beside us and they told us it was possible to park here on the pier over night without any problem , very tempting as I would think there could be good crack at night in the tavernas.Thought about it but decided to move on. Drove to Tolos but thought it was very commercialised and not as nice as the Greek towns and villages we had past through. Then we found Lefka Beach www.camping-lefka.gr. Immediatly fell in love with this beautiful site right by the sea on a picturesque bay.
Pitches a bit tight to get into but worth the effort when your all hooked up and enjoying the view and a glass of wine outside your camper.

Mani Beach, Zaritsi and Lefka Beach 28th,29th and 30th May 09

Stayed at Mani Beach Camping ,Gythio where we met up again with Mary and Mike from England with whom we shared dinner , a bottle (or two) of wine and a very pleasant evening. We had met them at Kato Alissos near Patras.
On Friday we headed for Monemvassia, its almost an island fortress nice tavernas and shops but no Camp site and dreaded signs posted everywhere "NO CAMPING OR OVERNIGHT PARKING FINE OF €147.00 per night per person".Drove on to Tolo but were not impressed (Too Commercial) but then found Camping Lefka Beach. This is a beautiful site situated right on the waters edge of a beautiful Bay. Peace................

Stoupa ,Diros Caves,Vathia to Gythio Wed. 27th May 2009

We left the pretty town of Stoupa about 10 .00 A.M. and headed down for the bottom of the Mani Peninsula, across beautiful mountains but very narrow roads and hair pin bends.Drove from Ag. Nikon to Areopoli to Diros Caves (Vlychoda Caves) We took the boat trip through the caves with its crystal clear waters and wonderful Stalactites and Stalagmites. The trip takes about 40 mins and costs €12.00 .Well worth the experience. Followed the signposts for Vathia packed with its famous Mani Towers and defence settlement ,more narrow streets not really made for 3.5 ton campervans but made it...........Arrived at Gythio about six pm and booked into Camping Mani Beach tired but happy Eat at Camp Restaurant €20.00. Good Day.
